Diwali – A special one

In Tamilnadu , the two festivals that are being celebrated with lot of enthusiasm, energy, happiness and sweets are Pongal and Diwali. In rural areas, Pongal is the major one. And in the urban areas, it’s Diwali. 

 

For me, Diwali always created some excitement until some 6 years ago. I will keep on counting, how much days left for Diwali, what kind of new crackers I can crack this time and what’s the new dress my parents going to buy for me. And before the D-day itself I will start cracking some crackers as we will buy them some 3 or 4 days before. Two days before itself my mom will start preparing some sweets and savories.

I had lot of things to do on the eve of Diwali like taking oil bath, cracking the crackers, eating a lot and watching some idiotic television programs. Taking oil bath (In gingelly oil) is the first thing I had to do on that day. I hate that (the smell of that oil is enough to spoil my mood for that day) but my father forcefully apply it on my whole body. Damn! After finishing my bath I like to crack the crackers. But my parents will not allow me before the pooja finishes. My mom will get up early (3 or 4) to prepare some more sweets and breakfast. All the prepared foods, new dresses will be in front of the god (Oh! When this pooja going to finish?). Once the pooja is finished, I will have my stomach full of breakfast, will wear my new dresses and then get the blessings of my parents. After this, I will change my dresses and will go to crack the crackers. And till the day ends the things I will do routinely in regular intervals are watching TV programmes, cracking and eating a lot. At last after a very long, tired day I will take rest(i.e. sleeping 🙂 )

But for last 6 years I am not celebrating Diwali with the same enthusiasm and excitement as the major thing crackers has been out of my celebration. Last year is the worst of all as I am not even in the home to celebrate it as I am attending my training in Bangalore and reached my home only by 10.P.M. of Diwali.

This time Diwali is going to be celebrated on Monday in Chennai, so it’s a long weekend and sometime for all to get geared up well before Diwali. I couldn’t hear any cracking sounds around this time maybe these kids are too lazy to come out of TV and video games to crack else they too concerned about environment. What makes the childhood special is these kinds of memories only so I am sorry for these kids.

For this Diwali I have planned to watch a movie today and going to stay in the home tomorrow. Yesterday went to T.nagar to purchase some clothes for me. It’s a nice experience. Aegan is the movie I am going to watch. Don’t know how good or bad the movie is going to be. Already my mom started preparing the sweets, so it’s the time for me to eat them.

And for all I will have my Diwali wishes and for who are nearer to me I will have some sweets too 🙂
