Aegan – Review

        What will happen when you don’t have a proper script and a gripping screenplay? A mess. That’s what happened to this movie. A movie which is said to be an action-comedy entertainer has come out as a half baked comedy film. Director must understand that some stunt sequences here and there don’t make an action film.

          The plot of this movie is not simple. It’s very simple. A man from the villain (Suman) group becomes as an approver. As police doesn’t able to provide enough protection for him he escapes from there. With his statement only police will be able to arrest the villain (exciting!!). They guess that he will come to meet his daughter (Piya) who was studying in a college in Ooty. So they send the CBI officer Shiva (Ajith) as a student to catch him while he comes there to meet her daughter. So you may ask where our heroine Nayantara comes. She is the newly joined Chemistry professor in that college. And the purpose? There is no guess work.

              Ajith doesn’t fits as a police officer. He must have tried to tone his body well. But quite funny things are made out of that. As a college student he had done very well. He tried comedy here and in most parts it is enjoyable. He also improved his dancing skills. Nayantara does what is expected of her. Wearing least possible amount of clothes, shaking legs with the hero and an expressionless portrayal of her character. I don’t know how many she is going to do like this. Suman, wearing the wigs of 80’s (I think he maybe got it from Nambiar or Jaishankar) tried to be a comical villain. But ends up as a comedian. Jayaram was wasted by giving the scope less role as a college professor. So as Nasser and Sreeman. Among these Piya was the surprising one. She got the role of some scope and she emoted well. Navdeep, as Piya’s lover may have counted this film as his comeback, but now he must do some other film for that.

       With the whole film sans logic there is nothing to point out. If there are some enjoyable parts then it is the laughter combination of Haneefa and Ajith. Cameraman Arjun Jena has done a wonderful job with some good angles whether it is a action or comedy or dance sequence. Editor can’t be blamed much for the sluggish pace of the movie with this kind of screenplay. Credit must be given for editing the stunt sequences well.

            Yuvan Shankar Raja doesn’t delivered his best for this movie. I liked two songs ‘Hey Saala’ and ‘Hey Baby’. Background score is also not up to the mark. Director Raju Sundaram belongs to all the credits and the minuses mentioned above. If you can sit through the movie, the only reason will be Ajith.

          The bottomline is, this is a very miserable attempt at direction by a successful choreographer.
