Law and Order – Where?

November 14, 2008

I don’t know how many of you heard about this news, but this is the one which made me to write this post: Violence in Law College in Chennai (Dr.Ambedhkar Law College). I am very much shocked to see the youngsters who are said to protect the law and order of this country in court in the near future were involving in behavior which is totally unacceptable from any of the people that too in the college premises.

From the news I have seen and heard the reasons for the clash between two groups of students are said to be:

  1.  A communal clash between groups following the issue on the bills stick, on the occasion of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Devar’s birthday which doesn’t have the name of Dr.Ambedhkar in it (both the leaders belong to different community).
  2.  It’s a clash between the day scholars and the hostel guys.

So with the 2nd one hard to believe, first may be probably the reason (I am not assuring it). For this incident, everybody was pointing the fingers on following departments or persons:

  1. Policemen who were stood just outside the main gate were viewing everything happening in front of their eyes as a mute spectator.
  2.  College president didn’t take enough action to clean up the students from the campus who were roaming around there with dangerous weapons from 2.P.M and the violence was broke out by 4.30.P.M.
  3. Students. Main culprits who didn’t know what the value of a life is. Each and every student in Tamil Nadu will be ashamed of their behavior.

  Police department:

Surely policemen who have stood outside the campus must have interfered and stopped the violence. Even after seeing a student (they called him like that) being beaten brutally by the others so-called students in front of their eyes they were just standing like nothing is happening. It’s their responsibility to safeguard the people from injustice and put back the law and order. Now many of them were being transferred to different locations for their ineffectiveness (A great punishment). You just can’t stop laughing at this activity as are they going to change just because they are transferred? They are going to just see the law and order being kicked around by those goons and thugs there. They must be sacked without any mercy.

The reason which had been said to made the police to do the role of spectators is they don’t got the complaint from college president to act those who are involving in violence.

But I am sure if policemen were acted yesterday against the two groups clashed yesterday the groups will be united and will protest against the police why they came into the campus and their college higher officials may say police has no role to play in academic area (This has been happened many a times).

I always have a soft spot for policemen, after all they are humans. Fault is at their side on yesterday. Those who love to serve the public with true dedication are more there but due to some black sheeps in their department those who are true were being hit like a ball with the bats called corrupt politicians. Today the government has shifted the Chennai Commissioner but will the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who is also the minister of department of police resign for this failure? If the corrupted policemen were removed from the police department means police will become the friend of people.

 College President:

This college president is the first one to be sacked for this incident from my view. I can’t tolerate the silly reasons provided by him on this incident. He says:

  •  I have called police but they didn’t took any action
  •  There will be always some fights between the students but we didn’t expected this big one.

Are the students are primary schools kids to fight against one another? They must join and act together to develop our nation. The inactions on the students who are repeatedly making mistakes led to this huge violence. President of this college and the higher officials plays a big part in it. If they have taken appropriate action against those armed students this may have been prevented. But they haven’t done anything right.

They turned into murderers yesterday. You could understand why I am calling them as murderers if you watch this video:

Parents of a student who was being attacked by a group of other students were crying that his son was being attacked, he can’t walk properly now but these policemen were stood silently watching it. I have some questions for them. Why their son need a knife to write a exam? Is pen is not enough? How they can justify what he has done was right? I am not sure how many such violent incidents are being happened within the college? If this was also happened in a class room or hostel means nobody could have came to know about it. My suggestion is to dismiss all those who are involved in this violence without any discrimination. This must be a lesson to all the students to kill their unethical instincts and behaviors.

This is the present situation prevailing in our country. We left to search where is law and order? No safety for an ordinary citizen. These ministers along with visiting those who were injured must devise some plans to curb these activities. Lets hope for a betterment in the law and order and the lives of people.

@ Kanagu : Oh i saw this on the news today. Amusing how the cops just stood there and did not do a thing. Amazing how the college is run and shocking that so called students can do this to each other. I think there is little that can be done to change this because what it tells me is that basically such stuff occurs routinely there because otherwise no one would have taken it so callously. It also tells me that somehow beating someone up is completely acceptable. So as long as it is okay to do that it will continue happening. It is only when all of the people around you say “Enough” then it will change. I would say its going to take a while unless of course they are all desensitized to it by now in which case I doubt it would happen at all.

Sad….kanagu really sad situation!!……I am petrified!!
U know what??? I was sorry I felt this but on Aug 15th, when I was in UK, I was feeling uncomfortable/different!! But somehow, when I thought the first thing that came to my mind was…”Hope nothing goes wrong in Hyderabad!!”

I was so scared!! True no safety for a common man!!

Wow that’s pretty shocking to watch. I didnt understand the language, so I dont know why the man got attacked in the first place. Why didnt the police do anything, they just stood there, they are suppose to enforce the law. That was more shocking then anything else is that the police basically let was looked like an innocent person die. MM glad I dont live there..Not to say the U.S is the safest place but the police respond to violence …Zman sends

I agree with you. All of them must call its time. But they must call it sooner than later.

Now fear factor is on rise. There must be a collective change in attitude and action of such people. Unless strict laws are enacted defaulters will be here.

he was attacked because he is one of the person of opposite group. He was not died he was now in hospital. Here also police will do the job. But corruption and fear made them left stranded there. They must have acted on this. Quality of our politics is also a reason for this 😦

Don’t lose hope. We will do better and things will change.

    Welcome to my blog 🙂

The college president definitely needs to be fired after how poorly he handled the situation. 😦

These thugs have made a mockery of education and civilised behaviour . . . the policemen and the principal must be fired . . . the unfortunate guy who was brutally beaten is said to have assaulted a fellow belonging to the other group with a knife earlier . . . and these thugs calling themselves students seem to bring knives and sticks regularly to college . . . they must put this kind of behaviour down with an iron hand . . .

Such things will also continue till people feel that fighting and rowdism are heroic acts. After all, learning and gaining knowledge are the least bothered activities in colleges.

    Hi… How are you?? 🙂

  11. November 17, 2008 11:37 pm

    They fired him 🙂

If policemen and principal must be fired for their irresponsibility, why can’t we fire the minister of the law and order? he is also responsible right?

    @ smallstar

    I am fine friend… 🙂
