Political parties, News Channels and Sensationalism

April 2, 2009

For all our belief in democracy, the news Sanjay Dutt was debarred from contesting in elections has came as a relief. On the first place, why a criminal has been given a provision through which he/she can get a stay on his/her conviction and contest in elections. Is this country is short of human resources? Is the party is not able to find another candidate with a clean record from it’s huge member base? If it is so means, no need for a candidate to contest in election in the name of that party.

The news channels were behaving in the most irresponsible way, I can say. Yesterday when the news was out that the Sanjay Dutt was barred every news channel were contesting in providing the news with every possible interview on phone. They were calling whoever knows Sanjay Dutt and asking how he is feeling? What is his state of mind? Has he expected this one? And so on, so on…. all Ridiculous questions. The news that can be said in a single line has been covered for more than an hour. Is there any benefit for anybody except raising the TRPs of the news channel? For me it looks like they are campaigning for those corrupted and crooked politicians. Like, loving a not so good song due to repeated hearings, people will start to love those personalities.

The 3 english news channels Times Now, CNN-IBN and NDTV, which are claiming themselves as no.1 news channel were wasting the peoples’ time with news and interviews that doesn’t worth a penny. They can claim themselves as no.1 in sensationalizing the issues. The news about Azharuddin, they will show. Shibu Soren, Lalu Prasad Yadav… name any crooked politician they will have news about them. But there is a lady named Mallika Sarabhai, who was brave enough to fight the elections alone taking on those parties loaded with muscle and money power. I am yet see news about her in these channels. Why can’t these channels campaign for her, if they are really concerned about the nation? They can telecast about her qualification and her interviews an hour or 30 mins a day, which will reach the people in a bigger way. They are running the channels for business and nothing else 😐

Another funny thing I came to know by today is, congress has decided that they will not field any candidate on behalf of party, if Sanjay Dutt was contesting. They are ready to handover the nation to a criminal in the name of giving tribute to Sunil Dutt. Next Sanjay Dutt or somebody the congress party loves will say that they are going to contest for PM position and they will give support to him/her with their MPs to become PM.. LOL 😆

@ Kanagu : Ha I am the first one today. I think news channels in India are indeed only existing for their ‘entertainment’ value. I am not sure if you watch the Hindi ones but they can have me rolling in laughter for hours.

As for Dutt, everyone is presumed to be innocent till they are proven guilty. He has been proven guilty and is now in a process of appealing that verdict. I do not think at such a stage people should be allowed to run for parliament. Actually I am surprised that people actually vote for similar candidates and even allow them to win. So I guess they do and should have to share the guilt of their own decisions.

Even I am pushed to think like that.. they never ever going
to change.. speaking about new hindi releases, Shilpa Shety
interview and all kind of crap things. We have lot of channels
to chow those things.. all they have to do is, telecasting
the real news and the matters which concerns people..

I am not watching Hindi news channels.. but some way I think Tamil
news channels are better… even though their content may not
be great.. they won’t have such idiotic things..
people have no choice Odzer.. still our people were giving their
votes based on Symbol and not on voter.. so the politicians
banking their hopes on people’s illiteracy.. 😦

24×7 news channels have to provide content 24×7 hence, the crap…

    • April 3, 2009 9:50 pm

hmmm.. I think there are more to say.. and they are not use the system effectively

News channels are surely losing their importance by showing all kind of junk in the name of news.they show full episodes of some reality or copetition shows. now how are they news. it is bad enough to watch the shows once and the news channels show reruns of them for months.

what you said was very true i have seen just a 5 min news about Mallika yet but hours of Sanjay Dutt and his friends who have nothing to do with politics. ok he might or might not be guilty but he is in the process to prove that.

one more thing i don’t understand is Sanjay wants to join politics.OK but what does it mean that if he doesn’t get a ticket Manyata wil take his place…? (maybe following the path shown by our respected Railway minister and his better half.)

    • April 3, 2009 10:42 pm

Now I am not all watching them… just watching to get the breaking news.. as all the time they are showing that only 😛

As far as Sanjay Dutt is concerned, he is a proven criminal.. 🙂
It shows our women are still the puppet of their husband.. they will be in position, he will have the power 🙂

All these news channels have become loads of crap since they became 24/7.
I miss the time when we just had half hour slots for dedicated important news.
And you are right, even i find the regional news better than hindi and english news channels.

    • April 3, 2009 11:22 pm

      welcome here Enchanted 🙂

yes.. but in DD still its continuing. but only 15 mins 😦 actually DD news never gives full coverage of anything except the PM and his ministers tours.. it never cares about common man

News channels are becoming crappier and crappier precisely because as Sraboney says they have become 24×7 channnels…so they have to show something or the other all the time…

    • April 3, 2009 11:23 pm

yes.. but Indyeah, do you think in this country we are short of news.. ??

  6. April 2, 2009 1:06 pm

I miss good old Doordarshan simply because it had boring news. Now with 24/7 breaking news my head breaks.

Kanagu – That is so true.. The media pounces on anything that is scandalous picks it to pieces and makes it even more scandalous than it was! Look at Varun Gandhi – they have made such a big deal about him that he got some more pubilcity for free!

As for focussing on important essential things – who cares! I always wonder, why don’t they get hold of the portfolios of the political parties and do a rigourous analysis of each party?? That would be much much productive and would probably give the people a fair idea of what each party is promising! But no – what they do is focus on the Sanjay Dutts and Varun Gandhi for the publicity value!
The Hindi news channels are even worse !

    • April 3, 2009 11:30 pm

yes… yes.. I think there is a secret dealings were going on between news channels and parties to popularize them.. 😀
this country has hell lot of problems, and they are hidden truths a lot.. instead of exploring them, whole media crying over useless things 😦
Thank god, I don’t know Hindi(for the first time, I am happy about not knowing Hindi 😀 )

Our Politicians defy logic & sense!!!!

Maccha, Sanjay Dutt was debarred from contesting in elections has came as a relief indeed, and the thing about Indian media is in pathetic state, all have a tunnel vision for news.

    • April 3, 2009 11:33 pm

      tunnel vision.. LOL Chirag 😆

have you seen it.. he has become GS of Samajvadi Party 🙂

  15. April 3, 2009 12:38 pm

As you have said- the Indian media leaves a lot to be desired. Not only are the news channels biased but most of the commentators talk in a shrill loud voice and very fast. Much better to read the news online. 🙂

    • April 3, 2009 11:36 pm

Yes.. let us take care of our years.. that guy in TIMES NOW always scares me.. he can better play in a Ghost movie..
What makes me really laugh at them is their No.1 tag 😆

  16. April 3, 2009 4:07 pm

I never understand why Aaj Tak is winning award of best channel from last 8 yrs as i finds thts the worst channel.still remember the way they highlighted ash and abhishek marriage drama….
I even heard that they have started taking money for saying good reviews abt movie etc..
    Gr8 post as always !!

    • April 3, 2009 11:40 pm

Awards in this country are only to show the money power.. nobody will get it for their talent and what they have done.. like Aishwarya Rai getting Padma Shree.. so we can leave the awards..
what you have heard is true.. it’s all business for them.. money.. money and more moner..
      and thanks Rashmi 🙂

  17. April 3, 2009 9:56 pm

The state of the news media is appalling. Period. Just all that useless competition amongst themselves.

Sanjay Dutt, well… The less said, the better.

God save. That’s all I can say.

Tc, mate. And btw, neat template. 🙂

    Peace. Have a nice weekend.

    • April 3, 2009 11:42 pm

yes.. About Indian media also.. less said, the better 🙂
thanks kartz.. nice weekend for you too 🙂

  18. April 4, 2009 4:12 pm

I have become disgusted to see any news channel. I just get the news from the News papers and the net. The way, the news channels sensationalize any stupid issue, it shows on to prove on that they would do anything to grab the audience’ attention.

    • April 6, 2009 1:32 am

true bro… nothing is for the people.. everything for the money 😦

  19. April 4, 2009 4:46 pm

Dude, Politics is dirty. News channels may say wotever the hell they like…at the end of the day…it’s commerce…it’s business. They r out to make money jus like everyone else.
    Simple.

  20. April 5, 2009 5:17 pm

news is disturbing, depressing n downright negative…
    N – Nonstop
    E – Evil
    W – Weakening
    S – our System

  21. April 5, 2009 5:42 pm

The thin line between Balaji telefilms and our news channels is fast diminishing. God save us!!!

  22. April 6, 2009 11:48 am

The politicians are the corrupt, criminal villains and these worthless “mainstream media” are the clowns! 🙂

  23. April 9, 2009 4:12 pm

So true! And in the end everyone wants money and publicity!

    • April 14, 2009 8:19 pm

      Welcome here Indian 🙂

      yes.. nothing more.. nothing less

  24. June 19, 2009 11:29 am

i agree with you on this one..nowadays u see all kind of crap on television..and one important point is there is no point blaming the politicians when half the population doesnt bother to vote
