Fresh tears

July 24, 2009

The stage is decorated in a grandeur way. The primary colour used to cover that stage is blue with milk white in between. It is such a big one which can accommodate 500 people at a time. The banner which is placed at the back of the stage bears the name of her appended with her most likable tag ‘Honey Voice’.  The best music troop of the country has made their arrangements perfectly, to add the value to the voice which is celebrated by all. Flood lights are on, so as the dancing lights focusing the stage.  A crowd of around 10000 people waiting to get a glimpse of her and her voice. All are waiting for her esteemed presence and some songs in her divine voice.

As the program coordinator comes around and announcing, “The wait is over… here our beloved ….. Arrives”, the crowd erupted. She is walking royally on that grand stage and she is all beaming and her smiles just made her face to glitter more than ever. She is waving her hand at them, in response to their affection. After few minutes of cheering from crowd, she is ready and on the music troop lead’s words of ‘one… two… three’, music started to flow and she started to sing her one of the best melodies. Crowd just went silent on to hear the voice, they are hearing daily in their MP3 players or radio’s or audio systems. They are in a state of bliss till the end of that song and again cheers from the crowd. Then she starts to sing a fast number along with a relatively new male singer with dancers on her background to match the beat. The crowd too started to dance and its another great performance for next 5 minutes. With that she goes to the room at the back of the stage to take some rest with music and dancing continuing on the stage.

She sat on the chair and started to sip some coffee over there. With each sip, some blurred images passed through her eyes. She started to see one of the wedding halls with people just started to pouring in. The Orchestra was arranging the instruments in a way to get the best possible output out of the acoustic of that hall. After all the testing is done, orchestra played their signature start music. The organiser of the orchestra came forward and wished bride and bridegroom with she accompanying him. They started to sing one of the old songs which praises the boy and girl who are trying to tie the knot and then followed the series of songs. She has been featuring in 75% of the songs and giving 100% without getting distracted by the loud music falling into her ears. The crowd gathered to wish the couple hardly noticed the music troop. Sometimes claps are coming from the corners but she couldn’t distinguish whether it is for encouragement or a sarcastic one. But she has to take it. She sings her favorite a whole song not with words, but with whistle. Now there are more encouragement from the crowd and that gives her the satisfaction. When she starts to pack up with a satisfaction… words came out from her assistant..”madam, it’s time to go” which made her to come to the present.

She places the cup nearby and said to him, “I am ready.. will be there in a minute” she said and started to  look into herself in the mirror. Then she  thinks that  why don’t I sing the same whistle song here.  On coming back to the stage to the cheers, she asks the lead to play the music of the particular song and started to whistle. The crowd watched in awe and as she completed the song, she hears only the whistles and claps everywhere  and tears are flowing down from her eyes.

I would like to imagine that the singer is Shreya Ghoshal, one of the best singers I have ever listened to! The positive spirit is evident in your story – both in the past and the present. Nice adaptation shown by the artist.

    Destination Infinity

You have expressed the emotions in words, nicely, kanagu. I have seen great artists performing in weddings who were ignored by the crowd. Once Sudha Raghunathan (famous carnatic classical singer) said that she performs in the wedding wedding receptions, just to practice (do riyaaz) her music and she gets paid for that!

kanagu: Thank you 🙂 true and I find this in many marriages and this story is inspired by some of the singers who
    attracted me much..
thats a new info on Sudha Ragunathan.. thanks for that 🙂

I noticed in your Tamil blogs also that you are a good story-teller, Kanagu.

kanagu: Thank you very much 🙂

Please don’t add ‘Ji’ while addressing me! It sounds funny! While speaking in Hindi, it sounds right! Or should I reduce my age in my profile?!!!

kanagu: Sorry… but how can I call you by your name… you are so elder to me… close to my dad’s age 😐 hmmm….
/*Or should I reduce my age in my profile?!!!*/

    😀 😀

I am curious..coz it can be either way…

kanagu: its inspired by 2 girls and a boy who sung well in one of the marriages Indyeah.. their voice is so sweet 🙂
I watched in awe when one girl whistled the whole song.. a tough thing to do 🙂
and I like to see them in big stage soon.. 😀

keep writing such stories ..you have a way of telling them in a different style..

kanagu: Thanks Indyeah.. hope I will write some more 🙂
