A thorn inside the flower
I like my college days. I love what all I did in my college. There is not a single thing I dread about my college life which includes my studies. Many of you will feel the same. But one thing that irks me when I think about college is RAGGING. People who rags their junior defends that its just for fun. But in no dictionary it is stated as fun. According to wikipedia it means abusing, and by free online dictionary it is teasing.
So why I have to post it now when I had lot of days before and have lot more ahead. This incident happened in the Bharath university made me to write this post. In this case senior students asked for money from juniors and when they refused they have got beaten up. When the police nabbed the offenders, college administration comes to the rescue and no action were taken from their side and by Police also.
I am not believing everything said by the juniors who said to be affected. But I don’t say these are all not happening. The thing is, is it a birth right of seniors to get money and all the goodies from juniors? Who are they to dictate the terms in a college? Is there not a better way introduce themselves to fellow juniors? if this is the only way they know to get introduced I feel there is no need for any relationship between them. There are some dreadful hostel stories where the students conducting some beating sessions for pure fun. And it’s happening in Medical and Engg colleges!!! The guys who were studying their heart out for more than a year to enter those professional colleges doing this. Quite an unacceptable reality. It really sucks when I hear about them. Some of their activities in the name of ragging really really unimaginable. Read this news about the death due to ragging in 2004. How they stoop to those levels. What makes them so arrogant, rude and so merciless??? I think its about the system. Because they are not taking a single step to punish them and eradicate this practice.
Consider the case, the police will not register a case because it will spoil the future of the students. I can’t call somebody who runs around with hockey stick just because one didn’t given him 500 rupees which he surely doesn’t deserve as a student. I don’t see any future for them in this world. What kind of person we will get from our education system after 21 years?
Police can be forgiven. Because they does this on the basis of humanity grounds. But I couldn’t tolerate the behaviour of the college administrators. Those money minded goons just doesn’t let these things coming out or taking action against the students who were indulging in this practice to avoid their college name from getting tarnished. I never seen or heard about a student being dismissed from college for the unacceptable behavior but heard a lot about deaths due to ragging. And the way I see it, a person’s life is very important than one’s education.
If the medical student Navarasu, a medical student belong to Tamil nadu was not killed the present situation would have been so worse. I hate to say this but thats the truth. But still a lot of improvement should happen in the situation prevailing now. Still students were committing suicides as they couldn’t bear the tortures in the name of fun. I strongly feel that some students should be dismissed from the college for ragging that should be made news in a big way which will send down shivers to all of the students who were studying.
Visit this site which talks about the ragging and there is news for every single week. There are a lot which go unnoticed. 😦 😦
There are many cases go unreported. And I am the one. Though I am not the worst affected by that, still there are days I hated and stressed out by this. I still don’t recognize a senior guy as a human for any matter. According to me, he is a scum. By looks he is smart, but in behavior I am yet to meet a lowly person than him. I could say that’s the case with the SENIOR guys who were running around with Hockey sticks. And I can tell that I never ever harmed any of my juniors. I talked with them, shared a lot during my bus journey but never in my thought I wanted to hurt them. And they are many seniors who didn’t hurt me too. They guided me. They showed the way which I followed and many of my friends.
Watch this video which explains about the ragging experienced by a first year student who turns around to change the custom in his second year. Hope everybody goes like this.
