In my view: Why the today’s bandh failed?
Today’s bandh haven’t created any kind of stir among the common people, atleast in Chennai. Whoever I have seen were happy to carry on with their daily jobs. So what’s the reason??
- Are people are happy about the price hike?
- Are our people become economically stronger to shell out those extra pennies to buy food?
- Are people nodding to the open market situation of fluctuations in crude oil price to be reflected here in India?
The only answer for all the above questions is no. Only thing is, they want to fight against this. But they don’t believe the opposition parties who headed this strike. Because the political parties were not reflecting the common man’s concerns. They have hooligans, crorepatis and children of proud leaders as their faces that are in no connection with the people.
Anti – people government:
I think this is the worst anti-people government I have ever seen. This government behaves in manner to show off itself in the world stage without showing any kind of care towards the people. All it concerned about is growth rate. They are happy to announce to the world that we are growing at 9% or 10% every year. But what is the use??? Oh yeah. The price of every essential thing is on the rise. I don’t know what the cabinet ministers are thinking about our country. Just because they are in A/C rooms and travelling in cars everybody in this country were living in the same way?
Our honourable petroleum minister Mr. Murali Deora has said that this was taken in the ‘LARGER NATIONAL INTEREST’ of saving the Navaratna oil companies from bankruptcy. From what I have known, most of the shares of these companies are with the government. And it’s not that hard to guess whose pockets are going to get filled by this price rise and decontrol of prices.

Already the prices of food items are increasing at a sky-rocketing price. With the rise of diesel price by 2, this is just going to worsen up the things. I am not going to shops frequently these days. But I am really shocked to compare the prices for which I bought some food items then and now.
For 1 egg the maximum I have paid till 2007 June is Rs. 1.75. But now its Rs. 3.25.
For 1kg of tomato the maximum I have paid during rainy season is Rs.40 (That is the time it prices goes to maximum). Now in June itself the price is Rs.40.
So is the earning capability of the people is improved double the rate? I don’t think so.
With the food inflation rate and Wholesale price index were increasing dangerously is this price rise is really required at this time? I am not an economic expert like our own PM Dr. Manmohan Singh or Planning commission head Mr. Mantek Singh Aluwalia. But I have some common sense which they completely lack. Surely this price rise is not at this time at all.
This will be position of the country if we don’t have a strong opposition which has enough time to look into only internal issues.
Just see how much taxes were included in our petrol price.
Petrol price break up:
This is a break up considering crude oil at 130 $ per barrel. Following details are for per liter petrol in Rs.
Basic Price = Rs 21.93
Excise duty = Rs 14.35
Education Tax = Rs 0.43
Dealer commission = Rs 1.05
VAT = Rs 5.5
Crude Oil Custom duty = Rs 1.1
Petrol Custom = Rs 1.54
Transportation Charge = Rs 6.00
Total price = Rs 51.90
so for Rs 22 liter petrol at pumps we people pay Rs 28 tax extra.
Source: http://indiapoliticalblog.com/2008/06/14/tax-break-up-of-final-petro-price/
The above price is if the barrel gets sold at 130$/Barrel. Now the crude oil price is just 73$/barrel. This government completely fools us.
PS: Few of you may say that the bandh was carried out in full fledged manner in your areas. According to me a bandh is successful only when the government shakes up in terror and feels the heat of people. But I don’t think it happens here and even if it happens this Capitalist government won’t give a damn. Anyway we elected them and we only have to suffer.
As far as I see it, ALL governments are anti-people because the people who make up the governments are there to line their own pockets and not look after the interests of the common man…
kanagu: True.. but then I couldn’t ctop lamenting 😦 😦
Thatz it!
Nice Article, Its time some common sense goes into their empty heads.
kanagu: Thanks da 🙂 🙂
As u said we elected them, we only have to suffer….
kanagu: 😦 😦
By all accounts,bandh was successful.
The arrogance of the govt has beyond any ones reach and the next alternative was to take to streets.
Let us not forget, cong in earlier days took to bandh.
kanagu: Every party while in opposition will support the bandh…
Thats a good split up of the petrol price !!! The earning goes up – the Govt tries all methods to get it all back thru taxes !!!! 🙂
kanagu: 😦 😦
And u rightly said – its a anti-people govt.
Bandhs are not supposed to violent, forced and breaking into property and hurting others…there can be peaceful methods of showing the concern towards rising prices…better methods…when we can innovate in doing crimes, why not something worthy for the society.
I hate bandhs and all that associated with it. Yeah life was normal in Chennai.
kanagu: This time I think bandh is required for sure… this government is out of mind and surely one of protesting is bandh.. but I don’t like it to be forced or damaging property or any trouble… It must remind the govt that what they have done is not right… I myself thought about not going to office… but nothing will happen to me as I have enough leaves 😦 😦
Awesome post, Kanagu.
kanagu: Thanks Pals… 🙂 🙂
Price hike affects only the middle class / working classes. This class of people is timid, fights for their daily survival and has no powerful connections to ‘get things done in short cut’. The rich are not affected. The politicians are blissfully unaware of the daily fight for survival. like you have said, the hike in prices will serve to fill the pockets of the already rich!!
kanagu: Really true Pals… only the middle and lower class will suffer due to this price hike and they can’t show their opposition by any means 😦 😦
The bandh may be unproductive, but it goes to show the anger and frustration of the common man. So I guess its Ok.
kanagu: Thats my point too…
‘get things done in short cut’ – Well said Pal!
Anyway we elected them and we only have to suffer – All we cn do is choose the lesser evil! Which one of them will really work for the people?
kanagu: True.. nobody works for people… but then we are not demanding them… we distanced ourselves from them over the years… not that its our fault..
I don’t get why we should pay that much for customs…
They are looting us left right and centre.
They speak so much about the F***in larger interest of the nation, how much of this they’ll be pocketing is unimaginable by us.
kanagu: True Niveditha 😦 😦 I am just can’t take this…
I can’t believe you’re not playing with mea–htt was so helpful.
very nice post…
I am sorry about all this…
😦
kanagu: 😦 😦
The bandh cost the country Rs 2000 crores!! So whose loss is it at the end?
kanagu: I heard it is 13K crores…. 😦 😦 but then nothing happened.. it will be of lot of people… 😦
The bandh was unsuccessful and a waste of money and resources…
This is not the way to bring down proces or trying to bring about a change!!
kanagu: Its not about trying to bring in change Pixie.. but to show the government that we don’t approve this act… but then we know our opppsition parties and politicians 😦 😦
The fact that bandh was successful or unsuccessful is immaterial what matters is “did we achieve anything out of it?” and the answer is no!!!
kanagu: Smita.. nothing will happen in one day… but I have to accept this bandh won’t bring anything… but if this may make the governement to think a lot before next price rise then its a victory…
I guess we are one of the those countries which is paying highest tax on fuel prices! De regulation of fuel prices is a necessity and we will understand the benefits in long term but yes what government can do is reduce the taxes on fuel (and stop filling its coffers by exploiting the tax payers). Also the timing of the whole thing was as awrong as it could be! This decision shud have been taken long back but all thanks to elections they kept it at hold!!!
kanagu: I am also supporter of deregulation of prices… only thing is the timing… already people are shelling out a lot for food… then this will make the things worse for sure…
I hope you r havin’ a wonderful day!
🙂
kanagu: Yes friend.. Ia m having a nice day… how about you???
glad to hear it!
my day’s nice, too…
kanagu: Cool 🙂 🙂
Hey, that’s a cool toon, Kanagu 🙂 The bloody blue-turbaned thug, (inhu)Manmohan Singh looks so funny 😆 I hope you like toondoo, there are so many things in it, it will take some time to know how to use all of them.
kanagu: Thanks Raj 🙂 I have to explore toondoo.. they have a lot of stuff…
As for me, I really don’t care about this sham “bandh” or how many crores were supposedly lost due to it. I’m more worried about how many teenagers and boys are being murdered in cold blood in Indian-occupied Kashmir by sadistic mercenary barbarians unleashed by the uncouth, evil Indian empire.
Everyday, about half-a-dozen boys and girls are being shot dead and beaten to death in cold blood in Kashmir by the sadistic mercenary savages of the evil Indian empire. Where are the filthy liars and arse-lickers of the turdy Indian media? Oh yes, they do mention how Pee ‘Shit’ambaram calls boys hurling stones and mud at the sadistic armed murderers as belonging to the LeT. And the uncouth Indian hordes have such tiny pea-brains that they believe whatever lies they are dished out by the media loafers and other establishment scum and arse-lickers. Such is the lowly nature of the Indian lowlife turd beings. When a couple of random guys are punched in the face in Australia and robbed by criminals, the media loafers shout about the “racist attacks and murders” in Australia.
Where the hell are the f***ing Indian media loafers when scores of Kashmiri boys and girls are being butchered in cold blood every day? Why aren’t the pea-brained Indian hordes demonstrating against the cold-blooded murders carried out by the Indian government and its sadistic mercenaries in Kashmir, when the turdy hordes were burning Australian flags in the streets not too long ago? You know the answers as well as I do. The uncouth, turdy, pea-brained barbaric Indian hordes are relishing the murders of innocent young Kashmiris and watching them in glee.
Are the turdy, uncouth Indian hordes even human? Or are they the lowliest of the low, hypocritical, lying, pea-brained scum beings on the planet? The latter is a much better description for the lowlife Indian hordes.
You know what, I really give a damn about the so-called “sufferings” of the Indian masses (yeah, that includes me) who are affected by the price rise. This is not exactly suffering. Unarmed youngsters being shot dead and beaten to death in cold blood by sadistic mercenary lowlifes, like what our Kashmiri brethren are going through – that IS suffering. Being prevented from reading newspapers, buying groceries, food, medicines or using mobile phones and SMS, like what our Kashmiri brethren are suffering at the hands of the occupation criminals – that IS suffering. Watching your friends and relatives being shot dead in front of your own eyes by semi-literate mercenary sadists and then being beaten and maimed, like what the Kashmiris are going through right now – that IS suffering. Being taken to hospital in an ambulance and watching helplessly as the ambulance is showered with bullets by trigger-happy savages and the medicos beaten up and assaulted, like what the Kashmiris are going through, now that IS suffering.
You know what, I really give a damn about the sham “sufferings” of the savage Indian hordes due to “price rise”. The uncouth, pea-brained, conscienceless, lowlife Indian hordes deserve to suffer much, much, much more for the murderous suffering the Indian empire is dishing out to Kashmiris (and others like the tribals, Manipuris etc.) What’s more, the brutal killings of Kashmiris hasn’t even aroused a murmur of protest from the savage, uncouth, conscienceless, barbaric, sub-human Indian hordes. Yet you want me to show I care for the “sufferings” of these very same worthless lowlife hordes who are affected by a thing such as “price rise” (though it affects me as well as everyone else)? I actually give a damn!
Kanagu: Thanks for the detailed comment on the present day situation in Kashmir Raj… generally our mainstaream media never gives importance to such sensitive issues and subsequently people never care about them which includes me… I know our sufferings is very less compared to many in this world…. but then I felt it was horrible to loot money from their own people without any conscience….
Nice analysis done there Kanagu ! Our Indian Govt. is behaving like some of the multi national companies, dont you think? Squeezing the employees and paying them peanuts , just to show quarterly profit ! 😀 😀
kanagu: ha ha ha.. if they do that to govt. employees it will be good.. 😀 😀 but they are taking people for granted…
You are 100% right about this Govt.
But I support the hike in fuel prices esp. petrol and diesel. It should remove completely all the subsidies on these two.
In our nation, better management of energy is needed, esp. public transport including roads needs investments so people use these facilities instead of their personal vehicles.
Other thing is why should this Govt. be worried at all? It has been like this for last 6 years. Look at our opposition parties! But which is the real opposition here? Only BJP.
Congress is playing the game very well. They have vast experience in using every organ of Govt. machinery to their advantage. It equally knows what brings that party in to power. Better and honest govt. is definitely not one of them.
That info. you provided on the break up of fuel prices is very good.
kanagu: I can easily say this is the worst govt I have ever seen… 😡 Me too support price hike… but why so much taxes in a material which is going to affect peoples life…????
Just came to check out if I forgot to leave a comment 😛 😛 I have not missed any post anywhere Kanagu 😛 Ur comment on my blog is making me check all of them again now lol 😉
kanagu: ROFL 😆
Bro.. enaya bayam uruthura… I totally forgot the prices being here… ipo looks like its equivalent to the prices in london…. where are we heading!
kanagu: Naan ennaya bayam puruthuren… neenga inga vaanga… appa theriyum.. 😀 😀
I have never understood macro-economics. It confuses me a lot, to the extant of wondering if price rise is logical or illogical!! I am sure the people also have a huge part to play in this – not only the Government.
Destination Infinity
kanagu: DI… to me the decision is really appalling and for sure not at an appropriate time… already the food prices are high and this fuel price hike will surely make the matters worse… I think people form the government so they are also responsible…
