Mysore – Bandipur trip
This is a long overdue post on the trip we made by mid-September. I wanted to write once I was back then. But I waited to get all the pictures from my friends so that I could get my long time desire of making a video done. My dear friend Ravi and his local BSNL employees made the task harder which meant I got the last set of pictures from him by last Monday i.e. 2 and half months after we returned from that tour 😀 😀
Lets go through the cause of the tour… Ravi’s farewell was nearing then. Only some 50 days were left and its decided that we should go to Mysore. Ravi went to a cottage named ‘Tiger Ranch’ inside the Bandipur forest by May and he liked it much. He said we all should make a trip together. After looking around and discussing about many weekends, September 18 and 19 were zeroed in as many people were available on that day.
We all started from the office directly to Chennai Central to catch the train. As usual we made it just in time i.e. a min or 2 mins before the train started (9:30 PM). With many of my friends went on to chat beyond midnight, I slept soon. We reached Mysore by 7:30 and went straight to Ravi’s home. The road we went is clear of any vehicle; a welcome change from a vehicle stuffed Chennai roads. The path is scenic also with lot of trees on both sides of the road providing enough coolness to eyes. After a 15 minutes drive we reached Ravi’s home where we were welcomed by Ravi’s father and brother. We had a nice chat with his father and also we were served with nice, hot tea for the coldness in the morning.
With few chosen to stay back at Ravi’s home, we headed to our office’s Mysore campus to look around (Its a kinda picnic spot 😀 😀 ) and have a bath. That is the first time I was in Mysore campus and its really good. Very vast and beautifully built. As usual our photo session started once we put our feet in and it didn’t ended till we got out of it. Here are some of the pics of the campus (Click on the image to see it completely):
We went back to Ravi’s home by 12 noon which meant everyone of us missed our breakfast and very hungry. We started from Ravi’s home to Bandipur which is around 90 – 100 kms travel. Even though we were hungry but people said a strict ‘no-no’ for lunch as it was waiting in Bandipur. So we gulped few Aloo buns, Soft drinks to suffice our hunger. Its a pleasant travel as we moved outside the city with lot of greenery to see and we had some tender coconut too on the way.
After some 2+ hours of journey we reached the board which said ‘Tiger Ranch’ resort and our van traveled through a path which we dare to walk. The path is very narrow and to be clear there is nothing called path. There were some gaps with some arrows leading us and at last we reached the resort. With that our connection with the outer world was ended. Any mishaps there, the world would have missed us for good 🙂 Its a kind of hut with trees and a small lake around. The place is full greenish. An iron plate was hung around a tree and when asked they said it is scare away the wild animals. Are they scaring them or by saying this, scaring us?? 🙄 🙄
We were welcome there by warm people, friendly monkeys and 4 feet height dogs (4 of them roamed around there and totally more than 10 were there). Bah.. I am scared by last two. We were asked to wear dresses which completely covers us as dogs may get tempted to get fresh flesh 😛 :P. We booked 2 rooms for 13 of us. The rooms had a gloomy look to them with only a We kept the luggage there and walked ahead to have lunch. And lunch is really good. To be honest, I never thought I will get such tastier meal inside the forest. It is really good. After lunch we sat in the benches just outside the cottage chatting. And few started roam around the space a little.
After the lil chat we started to play volleyball and football which was quite fun. We played for around 2 hours and when the clock turned 6 its almost dark and we resided back to the benches to get refreshed. We ordered some chilly chicken, Onion Pakoda, gobi manchurian and some other dishes to fill up the tummies and our chat went on and on. By 9:30 or 10, the cottage owners said that they will shut by 11, so we went on to have dinner. A funny thing happened here.
They served the same chicken curry which was served by lunch. Its good. So we didn’t said anything started having it. But Sujai went on and asked the guy who served the chicken curry, “Is it the fresh one?”. He answered, “Yes”. Sujai turned around to Prasanna and said, “Macha.. avan ennaya yematha paakuran da. Athu mathiyam vanchathu-nu enaku theriyum da” (Machi.. he is trying to fool me da. I know this was prepared by afternoon). He said it that the half of the people there heard it, Prasanna standing there with lil embarrassment and the worker there don’t know what to say 🙂 🙂
After the dinner we again started our chat with Prasanna dishing out one scary story after another to scare us as if the dark and out of connection with the world are not enough. The camp fire which was put on by the evening started to go off and I am so eager to keep it on. Whenever it showed signs of going off, I get down and start doing ‘poof-poof’ at the remaining fire on the woods. Impressed by my work or jealous of my beautiful face 😛 😛 Lenin
patted on pushed my back while doing ”poof-poof’ which almost send my face crashing into the fire. I managed to balance myself and saved my face, literally 🙂
We went to bed by 2 and few still not willing to hit the bed. By night a wild boar came over and my friends clicked few pictures of them. By morning 7,
we woke up we were made to get up to go for a safari. By 7:30 Safari started and we were walking through the jungle. Its an interesting walk. But we couldn’t see any animals on the way. Only the fresh shit left by them said that they passed that place few hours ago. And guys took a picture of that too 😦 😦 After walking for about 15 – 20 minutes we reached a dam (forgot the name) which is said to be the place the animals come by morning to have water. Its one of the very scenic place I have seen in my life.
By 8:30, we returned back to cottage and had breakfast. We had bread, butter, jam, Omelette and kichidi as our menu and they were good. After the breakfast we started to play again till 11. After 11, we wrapped up and started heading back to Mysore. We stopped during the travel to have tender coconut. And we almost filled ourselves with that. There is a famous hotel in Mysore called RRR. We went there to have lunch. But its too crowded that we may loss our appetite to have food. So we moved on to have lunch with some peace. We hit an Andhra restaurant and had fool till we can say enough 🙂
After the lunch, we again went to Ravi’s home back again to refresh ourselves. As I had the plans to go to Bangalore I couldn’t join everybody for the Chamundi hills trip. Me and Karthik went to Mysore railway station to catch the train to Bangalore which ended our eventual trip. Maybe next time I Should visit Chamundi hills. I am planning to go there in 2 weeks time 🙂
Here is the video I made for this trip (Inspired by Vimmuuu) . The first one from me. Let me know how it is friends:
