Out of Comfort zone

“Hey Champ, come here”, Sekhar called his 8-year old son Ram, who was restlessly skimming through the channels to find his favourite Tom & Jerry.

Without moving his head an inch here or there, he answered, “Pappa… what?”

“Come here, lets see whether you have packed all the things required as we are moving out tomorrow”

“I am yet to do that pappa… you go to office. I will finish it before you return by evening” said Ram, after he found the Tom & Jerry in CN.

Sekhar know that forcing him won’t do any good and he know his son very well that he will do it for sure before he returns back. So he said bye and left to the office.

By evening after he returned from his office, he has seen his son so disturbed and sad. Even though he know the reason for that he wanted to console him. He went near him and sat down with him. After some minutes of silence, Ram started to speak, “Pappa, is it so important to move there? Seems like all of them, Rakesh, Pooja, Balu and many were here only. It will be really difficult pappa”.

Stroking the head of his slowly, he said, “I know champ but pappa’s company wants him to be in one of their other office. So we have to shift and I will promise you that I will bring you here whenever there is a long vacation for you”. From the looks of Ram, he understood he is not convinced but he can’t do much about it.

Change is the only constant thing, he reminded himself.

At this time, their cat Dora entered there and Ram caught it. He held it in his arms and asked, “Dad, Dora is coming with us know?”

“No champ, it will be here in our house and I have made required arrangements”

Ram was really furious now, cried and shouted at his dad, “This is too much pappa. First my friends and now Dora also”

Sekhar waited for few minutes to allow Ram to calm down and asked him, “Are you feeling bad about leaving your friends?”

Ram Nodded his head slowly.

“Do you want the same thing to happen to Dora?”

Ram stunned by this question but wanted to say his point, “….. but pappa. Who will then take care of Dora?”

“I have spoken with Rakesh’s father and he said it will be alright as you know Dora is familiar with them also” said Sekhar.

He could see disappointment in his son’s face but still he know how hard it is for a human to adopt to new environment and also he know it doubles up for a cat.

PS: For the first time in my life, I have bought a novel without knowing anything about it. It’s ‘The curious case of missing dog in the night’. They have put that the book got Whitbread prize of the year but all I know was Milk bread, wheat bread and Sandwich bread. So let me read it and check how good my intuition is.
