AAA – Nalandaway – Arts Carnival & This week’s events

July 19, 2010

For the past 3 days, as a part of art, arattai, aarpattam Nalandaway foundation has organized the arts carnival in Dhakshina Chitra, Chennai. With this I have got an opportunity to have a first time visit to this centre which is dedicated for arts.

There are lot of activities went on in various places like Pot making, Origamy, Puppet shows, shell craft, Paatachitra, Palm leaf painting, pencil drawing, mehendi designing and much more. There are lot of kids came there along with their parents. Kids tried their hands on everything. Every volunteer at the respective counters explained about the art very politely and also taught the kids very patiently. As always kids tried to learn a lot.

One thing I observed was even though kids want to get a touch on Pot making they are afraid to do it. In turn, adults were so interested in doing it, I myself tried and made a mess of it πŸ˜€

Paatachitra – Kids were more happy to write their names and have a copy with themselves. I have read somewhere, ‘When we get a pen, the first thing we write is our name’. It is in our nature πŸ™‚

Origamy – Volunteers helped kids in making Lotus flower. Don’t know how many papers going to fly off from the notebooks of kids tomorrow πŸ™‚

Puppet show – I have went there at a wrong time and before it could end I left from there. So I couldn’t watch the puppet show 😦 As I am coming out I have seen a kid excitedly saying, ‘Puppet show dekenge, puppet show dekenge’ πŸ™‚

Shell craft – This was entirely done by the volunteers making Eagle and Turtles out using shells. Turtles were really cute πŸ™‚ Kids were really happy to watch how they are doing it.

Palm leaf painting – This is really new to me. There are lot of drawings done on the palm leafs with kids tried their hands.

Pencil drawing – There was a guy who draws the face as it is. All we have to do is just sit still there. Amazing. I am always wondered how they do this and I am still wondering.

Surely it worth a visit and I loved it. Only regret is that I didn’t had a camera with me 😦 I should buy it soon. For a long time I am thinking about it.
