MOVIES

Below are some of the movies I liked in 2010:

Aayirathil Oruvan:

After a long time, this is the first tamil movie to come out in fantasy genre. A crew starts its journey to find the lost Chola group who travelled towards North from Tamil nadu. They face various difficulties in reaching there. Once they reach there are few scores to be settled between 2 largest kingdoms, Chola and Pandiyas. The story looks fascinating, right? Movie runs in sprint during first half, slowed down considerably in second halfΒ  and left the viewer in confusion.

Its a good attempt. I liked it for most parts but couldn’t say that I can watch it fully again. Maybe the first part of it. It’s really racy.

Tamil Padam:

For the first time in Tamil cinema, a spoof film has come out and what a joy in watching it. I still remember the way I clutching my stomach due to laughing at some sequences πŸ™‚ Story??? There is no such thing πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

[See the poster. Isn’t funny? πŸ™‚ ]

Angadi theru:

The textile stores in big cities usually pick employees for their shop from villages for a very less wage. The film about such workers who finds their joy and sorrow in the shop. A realistic portrayal about the living of the workers of textile stores. Its moving.

Singam:

After a long time, I have watched a perfect mass entertainer and I loved it. The film just raced away from start to end. I love punch dialogues in movies and there are few powerful ones in this movie πŸ™‚ There are few dumb comedy scenes (Courtesy: Vivek) which could have been avoided.

Kalavani:

Two villages. One a small one and other is a big one. Some problems between them. A good-for-nothing hero whose only job is to roam around and flirting with girls. He fells in love with the girl from the other village. Throw all this together in a story you will get a violence as output on screen. But director Sargunam has thought otherwise and provided a funny movie.

A feel-good entertainer. A movie I didn’t watched in theatre and I am still sad about it. First half is ok but you will die over laughing with the comical sequences in the second half.

Madarasapattinam:

Movie was set during the period 1945 – 1947. A British girl falls in love with Indian village guy and the screenplay is done well with interesting sequences.

A periodic movie with a lovable romantic story. It went well for a most part but the climax was very long. There are some good songs and comedy too πŸ™‚

Naan Mahan alla:

This is my favorite in 2010. I liked it to the core. Both the first and second half of the movie are completely different in content. Yet both are likable. A group of youngsters rapes and murders a girl, father of a middle class family helps police as witness and what happens makes the movie. It has a beautiful love story too.

I salute the director Suseendran for including any song in second half which would have reduced the tempo of the movie and he had the below wonderful song with him. There are some wonderful performances and I liked the father-son relationship portrayed in this movie. So good.

Boss Engira Baskaran:

Nowadays if I want to laugh, this is the movie I am watching. So funny from start to till the end. Its been sometime since I watched such a Tamil movie. Santhanam and Arya has kept everybody in splits πŸ™‚

How to train your dragon:

A simple fantasy story on how love and kindness is better than violence. Very nicely said and good animation too. Surely everybody will love how the boy trains that dangerous dragon πŸ™‚

Toy Story 3:

Only Pixar guys can give a third installment of a movie which is better than its previous 2 movies. So funny and so sentimental. Wish they will make a 4th part.

Inception:

I have said enough about this movie. Such a complex story and only Nolan could have pulled it off on screen. Waiting for ‘The Dark kinight rises’.

Flipped:

A 7 or 8-year boy comes to neighborhood and the girl of same age who lives nearby fells in love at the first sight. The story goes on till pre-teen years where both fell in love with each other. The film has all kind of characters who make the proceedings interesting. Beautifully pictured and its nice to see such a nice-warming tale.

The Social Network:

A brilliant drama on the youth icon and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg. Very racy and good dialogues. The performance is also uniformly good.

Karate Kid:

The movie is high on violence considering its targeted audience age group. I loved the movie nonetheless. Its always a pleasure to watch Jackie Chan on screen. Jaden Smith’s performance is also impressive.

Kick Ass:

Just like the title, the movie is also Kick-ass. The film is about the super-heroes from ordinary people to fight against the thugs in city. Very interesting characters and funny too.

What happened to Goa? That is also a funny movie…

    kanagu: I didn’t liked it much 😐

In English, I saw only Karate Kid (Should have been Kung Fu Kid!) and liked it πŸ™‚

This looks like a great list! I’ve seen most of the movies you’ve mentioned. Worthmentioning, 2010 proved to be a good year in Kollywood, with decent number of good films being made!
Being a hardcore chennaiite leaves me with Madrasapattinam as the best movie of all! Among the English movies, I loved Toystory, Shrek and Inception…
