My trip to Hyderabad and Bangalore – Part II

March 7, 2010

I think its better late than never to write about my Hyderabad. My memory is fading out and now the 2 parts I wanted to post shrinks to only one post(less suffering for you all) and before it goes just about posting pictures as memories, I am typing down here.

For the trip I had no plans in my mind. The only two things I kept in my mind was I have to meet Swaram and then should watch Avatar in IMAX 3D by the night of 30th December, 2009. So slept nicely, getting up at my own time and then deciding where to go or whether to go out or not 😀 😀 So the ultimate definition of vacation is satisfied.

Meeting Mr.BJ and His roommates:

It’s really great of Mr.BJ to come all over to railway station on that really cold(that’s what he said, I never felt it 😆 😆 ) morning and take me to his room on the day I landed in Hyderabad(Ameerpet). Its quite hard to believe for me that we are really close friends now considering our conversation in the class for the whole of 3 years wouldn’t have gone more than 2 pages 😀 :D. Few days he left early to accompany me and also made sure that I am not ending up in wrong places 😛 😛

And from the Anna’s stayed with him, I have tasted some wonderful foods for dinner. Its really tasty and I loved it.

Meeting Swaram and Sumanth:

After going to the room of Mr.BJ, I swiftly started to get ready to go to Swaram’s home(Only day I started early from the room) and then again ended up pretty late there to meet the sweet couples. It’s a day to go to office for Swaram but waited for me patiently and treated me with Aloo Paratha for breakfast. It’s the best aloo paratha I have had in my lifetime with the caterers in my office providing some dish named Aloo paratha. As we see Swaram in the blogs, she never gets tired. She is fully energetic and on that day itself, she joined us to watch laser show in Lumbini park and also came with me to Eat street. And I think she knows almost everything about Hyderabad from what to see, how to go… she is an information depot 😀 😀

After bidding bye to Swaram from her home , me and Sumanth started our endless conversation on few of the Indian peoples favorite topics cricket, politics, food and yeah about ourselves. Time was passed on in no time to afternoon and we had lunch together. Sumanth accompanied me to Charminar and I am sure would have stood puzzled going there as the route was complex and non-availability of proper bus services.

I am really glad that I have met Swaram’s father, sister, Sumanth and Swaram again at the end of my trip there.

Meeting Saritha akka, Varunavi and Pinkuda:

This is the real surprise meeting with Swaram called me up on the day I met Swaram to tell that Saritha was coming here for a small vacation. And there I met her on the last day of my trip. I was really happy to see her, her mother and the kids. I had to catch the train after meeting her so half the time went watching the time 😆 😆

Pinkuda was so cute running to play with Varunavi in the stairs but her mom didn’t allowed her as she thought she was too little to go and play there 🙂 🙂 Varunavi seemed to be more responsible kid playing without disturbing anybody. I had very little time to spend there but happy as I had that.

Charminar:

This is the first place I have visited in Hyderabad. A superb monument, now taken care well by the government after plenty of damage is done. It’s really great to see either side of the road from the top of the Charminar and Sumanth has told me that its really good to see it by morning. We planned to go by morning by some other day but somehow couldn’t make it 😦 😦

Mecca Masjid is so close to Charminar and after a long time I have seen a lot of pigeon in the same place. Its quite a sight to watch them in evening.

Hussain Sagar Lake:

Actually there are lots of attractions around this lake. And I spent 2 evenings there. By the first day evening me, Mr.BJ, room anna, Swarama and Sumanth went to the laser show in Lumbini park and trust me it is one of the best show I have seen and the cost for that show is 35 rupees, which is damn cheap.

Then me, Swaram and Sumanth went to Eat street(Mr.BJ left to office as he had some little work) and there can’t be better place than that to have a nice evening with food. Lot of varieties were available there but a bit costly. Surely worth a visit.

The other day I spent sitting in the lawn around it and watching everything happening around me. Then took some experimental photos and as usual results are not encouraging 😀 😀

Salar Jung Museum:

I went there on the day when the whole of city was in Bandh and I am glad that they are open. They are safeguarding lot of precious works but the only problem is, the dumbo I am, don’t know the worth of them. I loved watching veiled Rebecca and the musical clock. They are the two things I watched for twice there. Another interesting work there is two-body statue – a statue with male face on one side and female face on other side.

But the only disappointment is they are not allowing photography there.

Golconda fort:

I went here by the 3rd day of my trip. This fort is really well-built and makes me wonder how the workers then made this possible. Those high walls to safeguard the fort and the building for the King at the top, truly amazing. But more than architecture I treated this as a trekking experience. And I really enjoyed it as I had lot of time and I walked slowly to the top and sat there for a little time and returned back.

It reminded me of the gingee fort near Chennai. They both were quite similar.

A funny thing happened there. I have seen the below the view of the top from the bottom and I went towards this.

And at the top I have seen this part and I was looking here and there for the top and also the path to climb further. After a lot of search I found that the place I am standing is the top 😀 😀

Paradise hotel:

This is the only place I visited at the last day of my trip. Me and Mr.BJ went there and had a delicious briyani. That is the best briyani I had in hotel after a very long time. But somehow I felt full before finishing one plate of briyani. Maybe the mixture of Chicken and Mutton briyani didn’t worked well, I think 🙄 🙄

Kaakathiya Mess:

This is a hotel in Ameerpet providing exclusive Andhra meals and I really liked it. One thing I like about the Andhra messes are that the dhal powder and the ghee combination they serve as first thing. Anybody who goes to Ameerpet and love to have a meal means I recommend you to take a meal there. I have heard that they are serving only meals for all the 3 times of the day 😀 😀

Travel in Auto:

I mostly travelled in Auto in Hyderabad and I think I haven’t travelled in auto that much in the whole of my life. But my friend said the cost for Auto travel is very much reasonable than in Chennai. Actually its one of the most important transport in Hyderabad along with bus and train 😀 😀

A funny mishap:

When I thought that everything was going fine, this thing has happened. Me and Sumanth started to go to Charminar. We have seen a bus that goes to a place near to Charminar but we have to go atleast a 50 to 100 meters to reach the bus stop to catch the bus. We started running towards the bus stop but the bus reached before us and started. We closed in on to the bus and I let Sumanth to get in, thinking I can get in easily but after he got in, I thought I can’t get in and stopped there.

Now I don’t know whether to stay back there and to move to the next stop to see Sumanth. And thankfully mobile came to the rescue with Sumanth got my number from Swaram and called me up to come to the next stop.

A disappointment:

I was really excited to go to IMAX theatre and booked tickets to watch ‘Avatar’ 10 days before itself. But alas, the TRS and other parties called bandh on that day and theatre was closed and missed watching the film there 😦 😦

On the whole:

This is the best trip I had after my college final year tour. I don’t judge a trip by the places I visit but the feel I get a day before about leaving and missing the whole thing, when I reach back to home. I felt it a day before the end of my trip and that’s the best thing can happen in a trip.

As I have already said, Mr.BJ, Swaram and Sumanth made this trip into a memorable one for me and they never let me felt alone in that twin city. Many, many thanks to them for all the love and care shown towards me. I hope to visit the city again someday and I wish they are there.

  15. March 9, 2010 10:27 am

You have nice friends everywhere, Kanagu.

    kanagu: I am a blessed guy 🙂 🙂

I had gone to Hyderabad and visited some of the places you have mentioned here. I remember commenting about how Golconda fort has become a urinal for our people. No one gives importance to ancient heritage buildings, here. I like Charminar also, did you go up the narrow stairs? Interesting.

kanagu: Now the Golconda fort is changed I think… because I never seen anybody passing urine there… and I went thru that narrow stairs of Charminar.. its really ggod 🙂 🙂

In Salar Jhung museum, the clock didn’t look very unusual for me (may be it was extraordinary in olden days), but I loved the paintings of some Italian painters, I think. The eyes of the paintings was very natural. Yes, man-woman painting was unique.

kanagu: I loved the clock much and seen it 2 times 😀 😀 I don;t have a great taste for arts 😦 😦

Their paruppu podi and gonkura chutney are famous. I always taste them when I go to Tirupati too!

    kanagu: Its heavenly 😀 😀 I love that paruppu podi.. 😀 😀

Yes, I used auto a lot over there and they are quite reasonable. Swaram and Sumanth are great friends, you are lucky to have them, Kanagu.

    kanagu: Surely I am a lucky one.. 🙂 🙂

  18. March 9, 2010 11:21 pm

Glad that you liked my city. I am as proud as a parent can be when their child is 1st in the class. I know its weird but I am.

kanagu: Its not weird Harini… even I feel the same when someones says they love Chennai 😀 😀
Eat street is our general hang out spot. We sit there for hours together and talk and have fun. The best part of that place is that no one asks you to leave even if you sit for like 5 to 6 hours.

    kanagu: Wow.. cool 🙂 🙂

You seriously need to be a pro to catch a bus in Hyderabad. Its very difficult especially if the bus is full. I hope you pay a visit once again here :).

kanagu: Yes.. buses in Hyderanad were complicated 🙂 🙂 I wish to visit 🙂 🙂

  19. March 10, 2010 2:51 pm

Hey Kanagu 🙂 that was a nice travelogue! and yeah Swaram is indeed full of energy 🙂 I dont remember Hyd because I had visited it when I was a very small kid. After reading about all the places here, I really feel like visiting it. And meeting friends is infact the most fun part of any trip 🙂

  21. March 18, 2010 8:29 am

U know Hyderabad is on my to visit list! Sorry that u could not watch Avatar. I think it is the oil in biryani that makes the stomach full quickly.

kanagu: May be.. that oil spoiled the taste lingered in my tongue… 😦 😦 you should visit it soon 🙂 🙂
